The Amish Canning Cookbook Is Officially a Bestseller!

Hello, all! Yesterday my publisher informed me that the ebook version of The Amish Canning Cookbook was listed last Friday in Publisher's Weekly as #7 on the top-20 bestsellers list in the cooking, food and wine category. I'm pretty happy about that!

  1. I just received my copy of your book and I am excited to get started canning. My hubby likes to take soup for lunch each day and your recipes are all quart size. Can I make them in pint jars, or is it better to just open a quart jar and send him with half?

    1. Hi, Mary-

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner! We had a spate of family emergencies plus the birth of a baby, so I've been out of my usual schedule taking take of folks.

You can definitely can in pints instead of quarts. Just reduce the canning time by 10-15 minutes and you'll be fine. But with all the men in my house, I've found that they love the quart jars for their large appetites, so I generally use quart jars...and if I have some left, I have been known to eat the remainder for my own lunch along with a piece of buttered bread to fill in the corners. It works out well!

      Blessings and happy canning!

  2. New to canning and I just got your book. I make a spaghetti sauce that my family loves and I wanted to can it however, I noticed your meat spaghetti sauce recipe was very exact and adamant about "don't use more!" When it came to certain veggies. I was wondering about the reason behind it. I am now freaking out I may blow something up or kill everyone in my family if I use my spaghetti sauce recipe. Thanks...

  5. I got your cookbook last summer & am trying recipes this summer. Did Peach Pie Filling. I just pulled B & B Pickles out of the canner a few minutes before my husband got home from work. He was in heaven with the smell! Can I make these recipes with zucchini? I did zucchini pickles a couple of years ago that everyone loved.
I have ingredients chopped & ready to go to make sweet relish tomorrow. Wish me luck!

  6. Purchased your Amish Canning Cookbook and followed your Farmer's Soup recipe which calls for processing 75 minutes. Is this correct since all the other meat recipes require 90 minutes pressing time?
